Specialized Hardrock

Living near the New Forest, the obvious choice for a first bike to start trying to get fit had to be a mountain bike. The bike chosen was a Specialized Hardrock mountain bike, purchased in April 2009.

This is the bike that really has to take the abuse - the forest is often wet, muddy, gritty, and even sandy in places. The hardrock has survived the abuse moderately well. Its fun to ride, but the maintenance is more than I would like - though for that I think I would have to ride it on roads - and it is a shame so many bits wear out when you go off road!

Front forks need servicing about every 500 miles, chains last about 750 miles, jockey wheels last about 1000 miles, cassettes last about 1200 miles, and bottom brackets last about 3000 miles.

This is the Sport Disc version, so it features an aluminium frame, SR suntour fork & crankset, Sram x-4 gears (rear derailleur upgraded to x-9), Shimano bottom bracket and Avid BB5 disc brakes
